Forests are one of the world’s most valuable natural resources. Not only do forests house tremendous
biodiversity, they are a source of vitality for 1.6 billion people worldwide. And when it comes to
fighting the effects of climate change, forests are also tremendous assets. Restoring habitats,
managing resources like water, and other nature-based solutions hold extraordinary promise in the
quest to stabilize global temperatures and weather patterns. Research shows that nearly one third of
the climate mitigation needed to meet the Paris Agreement’s objectives can be achieved through
strategies like these. However, forests are in trouble. In 2021, the planet lost 27.4 million acres
of tree cover.
